Crewe town centre tobacco shop to close after almost 40 years

A traditional Crewe town centre tobacco shop is set to close down this May, after 38 years in business.

Pipe Rack, Chester Street, operating in Crewe since 1987, will shutter on Saturday 17 May.

Operated by Mark Brammer, the specialist tobacconist sells cigars, pipes, lighters, pipe tobacco, rolling tobacco, alternative tobaccos, vapes, accessories and more.

Pipe Rack has been operated by Mark Brammer since 1987 and managed by Lisa Lodge since 2020. The late Averil Whitlock prevously managed the store (Ryan Parker).

The established Crewe town centre businesss says it is closing to a decline in trade. Customers will still be able to order online.

Manager, Lisa Lodge, who has worked at Pipe Rack for 11 years and took over from the late Averil Whitlock in 2020, is saddened by its imminent closure.

She told Nub News: "Sadly on 17 May, Crewe Pipe Rack will be closing down

"Some shop fittings will be for sale nearer the date. Nip in and reserve if you would like them.

"Pipe Rack is closing due to a loss of business. "I would like to say a big thank you for all the custom we have had over the last 38 years.

"Customers will still be able to order online. Thank you for everything Crewe."

The Pipe Rack building is owned by a Mr. Farman, who submitted plans for four self-contained flats above Kurdish Restaurant on Chester Street (Ryan Parker).

Pipe Rack will be open 8.30am to 1pm (Monday and Thursday), 8.30am to 3pm (Friday) and 8.30am to 1pm (Saturday) until closure.
