A Crewe teenager feels "honoured" after being awarded a fully-funded luxury trip to South Korea, as part of the prestigious 'Korea Invites U' Programme.'

Organised by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism along with the Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO), the programme attracted more than 77,200 applications from 185 countries and regions, with only 20 coveted spots available.

Jessie Jones, 17, who studies art and design at Stoke-on-Trent College, impressed the selection committee with her passion for Korean culture and fluency in the language.

The Crewe teenager's journey with Korea began during the Covid-19 lockdown when she started learning Korean using YouTube tutorials.

Her love for the language blossomed, and at the age of 15, she achieved the highest level (Level 6) on the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) exam, demonstrating her fluency.

Jessie's talent extends beyond language learning. She has a thriving YouTube channel where she vlogs in Korean and creates Korean language tutorials for the channel Hallyu Con.

From 20 to 24 May, Jessie joined the other chosen participants in Seoul and Busan for an unforgettable adventure curated by the KTO.

The itinerary boasted activities like a palace tour in traditional Korean attire, cooking and K-pop dance classes, and a yacht cruise around the bay of Busan.

Jessie told Nub News: "I felt really honoured to receive this prestigious invitation to visit South Korea as their guest.

"The activities were truly remarkable. I loved meeting other invitees from all over the world and I was so grateful for this opportunity."
