An established Crewe sex shop has applied to have its licence renewed for another year, following controversy last year.

Temptations Adult Shop has submitted a new premises licence application on behalf of its premises at 100 Nantwich Road.

Located one quarter of a mile from Crewe Railway Station and open since 2004, Temptations is owned by Mr Alan Brook.

Tempatations sells the likes of adult toys, potions, lotions, pills and poppers.

Since 2022, sexual establishments have to renew their licences annually, with Tempatations committing to another 12 months.

In 2025, Macclesfield councillor, Cllr Sarah Bennett-Wake (Macclesfield, Labour), objected to Temptation's licence renewal, saying it was "inappropriate" to the character of the area, as the shop was on a high street and a walking route to school.

The councillor also said data from the police showed Crewe South had the highest rate of sexual offences in Cheshire East.

Mr Brook said the data Cllr Bennett-Wake was referring to didn't give a breakdown of what had happened or who had committed the crimes.

He said: "I object to your suggestion that any of my 200 customers a week, that's 10,000 customers a year, are in any way involved with crimes that are happening in Crewe South.

"I don't see where the relevance comes into it. I find it almost slanderous."

Cheshire East went on to renew the licence for the Crewe sex shop, with that outcome expected again in 2026.

Temptation's premises license application reads: "Notice is hereby given that I, Alan Brook have applied on 19 August 2026 to Cheshire East Council in respect of the premises known as Temptations, 100 Nantwich Road, Crewe.

"This is for a sex shop and cinema licence to renew the licence as a sex shop."

Representations to Temptations' application shall be made in writing to Cheshire East Council Licensing Section on or before Saturday 19 September.

Temptations wants permission to open from 9am to 6pm, (Monday to Saturday).
