Crewe Alexandra are set to sign a 'highly rated' Premier League goalkeeper from a top six side - according to a world-renowned football transfers source.

Italian football journalist, Fabrizio Romano, has today (July 28), announced Arsenal goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo, is set to join the Railwaymen in a season-long loan deal.

The 6'6" stopper is highly-rated by Arsenal and has represented England at under-16, under-17 and under-18 level.

Mr Romano posted on Twitter that Crewe have reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign the 20-year-old, who is the Premier League side's third-choice goalkeeper.

The football journalist posted the transfer details, saying: "Arsenal third goalkeeper and England youth international Arthur Okonkwo is now set to join Crewe Alexandra on loan.

"Full agreement now in place, loan deal until 2023.

"Okonkwo, highly rated by the club and and considered big part of the future at Arsenal."

Who is Arthur Okonkwo?

Arthur Okonkwo is highly rated by Arsenal. Crewe Alexandra will be the goalkeeper's first professional loan (Getty).

Okonkwo was born in London. The 20-year-old has and British and Nigerian citizenship.

The right-footed goalkeeper made seven appearances for Arsenal Under-23s last season in the Premier League Two.

Okonkwo played in a 2-1 EFL Trophy win over Crawley Town for Arsenal's under-21s in October 2020.

According to Transfermarket.co.uk, Okonkwo has a current transfer market value of £1.35 million.

The goalkeeper will be Crewe Alexandra's eighth signing of the summer - giving competition to Dave Richards.

This follows the arrival of Leicester City midfielder, Khanya Leshabela, who joined the Alex on Tuesday (July 26).

Okonkwo will wear the number 13 shirt for the Railwaymen. He is eligible to feature against Rochdale.
