CREWE is bracing itself for the hottest day of the year with temperatures soaring to 29C later this week.

With the nation heading into a mini heatwave the Met Office predicts the mercury will hit 29C tomorrow (Wednesday) and 28C on Thursday in the town, three and four degrees C higher than today's highest temperature.

Forecasters are predicting the UK's hottest day of the year could be recorded several times over by the end of the week.

The prospects are in stark contrast to last week's wet weather which saw Crewe hit by flash flooding.

The dry and and sunny weather should bring more people out and about and with the Government Covid-19 alert level lowered to three, emergency services are urging residents to continue to respect the two-metre social distancing restriction.

This week's heat is set to fade by the weekend and temperatures in Crewe are expected to have dropped to 19C by Sunday.
