Crewe school and nursery praised for 'strong standards' in new report
By Ryan Parker 5th Apr 2026
Beechwood Primary School and Nursery in Crewe is maintaining "strong standards," according to a latest Ofsted inspection from 27 January 2026.
Inspectors found four areas where the Meredith Street educational facility was "strong".
These were attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, inclusion, and personal development.
The Crewe school's achievement, early years and leadership were judged to meet the "expected standard".
Attendance and behaviour were Beechwood Primary School and Nursery's key strengths, with Inspectors saying: "Leaders work hard to make sure pupils come to school every day."
Attendance has improved over the last three years, with persistent absence now lower than the national average.
Pupils were praised for how they conduct themselves, with inspectors noting they "behave well and above calmly around school".

The Ofsted report highlights a calm and positive environment at Beechwood, with pupils saying teachers "help you fix mistakes", allowing learning to continue without disruption.
Inspectors said bullying is dealt with quickly and fairly, and that the school feels "respectful and welcoming for everyone".
Beechwood's curriculum was described as "broad and ambitious," with leaders ensuring subjects are taught in a clear order so pupils build knowledge step-by-step.
Daily teaching of reading, writing and maths was said to support most pupils to develop the skills they need. Where pupils need extra help, support is put in place quickly.
Inclusion is another strength, with inspectors saying staff "identify needs swiftly" and adapt teaching well.
Pupils with special educational needs, disadvantaged pupils and those learning English are also supported effectively. Simple strategies and tools help remove barriers so all pupils can access learning.
Personal development at Beechwood also stood out. The report describes the programme as "wide and exciting".

Pupils take part in activities such as outdoor learning, arts and enrichment sessions. They also take on roles like eco councillors and play leaders.
Inspectors said these opportunities help pupils become "confident, thoughtful and responsible young people".
Achievement was judged to be at the expected standard. Inspectors noted 2025 test results were affected by staffing changes in key stage 2. However, current pupils are "on track and achieving well".
Early years provision was also found to be effective. Beechwood children settle quickly and benefit from strong routines and language-rich teaching.
Some children need more support with early writing skills, which the school says it is working to improve.
Beechwood leaders and governors were praised for understanding the school. Inspectors said they "know the school's strengths well" and focus on the right priorities. Safeguarding standards were confirmed to be met.
The Crewe school currently has 490 pupils, well above the national average. Inspectors say the school continues to improve, with a clear next step to strengthen pupils' writing skills.
