Crewe roads closed again for five-week emergency gas works

Roads surrounding a busy junction in Crewe are closed for the second time in 2024, allowing emergency gas works to take place until the end of August.

The Wells Green junction is now closed until Friday 30 August, with the 84 and 84X bus routes altered during this period.

Stagecoach confirmed its 84 route will be temporarily diverted via Church Lane and Broughton Lane, coming back out on to Crewe Road/Nantwich Road.

D&G's 84X route is being temporarily diverted via Church Lane and Dank Bank Avenue, coming back out on to Nantwich Road.

Where the road closures in Crewe run from:

  • Crewe Road from the junction with The Poplars to the junction of Friars Close
  • Brookland Avenue from the junction with Crewe Road to the junction with Nessina Grove
  • Rope Lane rom the junction of Crewe Road to the junction of Wellswood Drive
  • Springfield Drive from the junction with Rope Lane to the junction with Laburnum Court

Cadent Gas are the UK's largest gas distribution network, managing a network of more than 80,000 miles of pipes.

The network is carrying out emergency gas works under the highway authority of Cheshire East Council.

Stagecoach confirmed its route will be temporarily diverted via Church Lane and Broughton Lane, coming back out on to Crewe Road/Nantwich Road (Jonathan White).
