Crewe resident slams 'unsafe' Queens Park fireworks event

A Crewe resident has slammed the 2022 Queens Park fireworks display - saying it was an 'unsafe environment for children of any age.'

The Lions Charity Fireworks Display began at 5pm with the fireworks being delayed from 7:00pm to 7:30pm.

There were three funfair rides and a number of burger vans - with the Park Life Café remaining open.

Before the display began, teenagers threw fireworks into a queue of people. Bangers were also thrown from rides into crowds of families.

A Crewe resident spoke to Nub News about the fireworks event - concerned with what happened.

They said "It was an unsafe environment for children of any age.

"In my opinion it was not aimed at a family event - it was basically a party in a field for teenagers.

"I don't think children under the age of 18 should be allowed in without a parent in future, bangers were thrown from rides into crowds of families.

The Crewe resident was disappointed with security at the event - shocked the teenagers hadn't been searched for the fireworks (Crewe Nub News).

"My daughter was nearly injured from them."

They said: "We complained to security about the bangers and fireworks being let off via the teenagers.

"My main concern is the safety of family, if the event carries on like this someone is going to end up seriously hurt, I for one will not be returning.

"It seems a lot more won't be either."

There was lots of smoke over Queens Park lake whch affected the view of the display (Crewe Nub News).

Nub News contacted The Lions charity about teenagers throwing fireworks at the event.

The vice chairman confirmed there were meant to be more rides for children.

Event organiser, Derek Morgan, told Nub News: "To be certain there were only three rides when I was assured there would be 10.

"I have no indication that happened but am aware that some youths did throw a firework in the crowd while waiting in a queue.

"While search is a condition of entry and this was carried out its does not take a lot of thought as to how this can be bypassed.

The Lions charity organiser confirmed there were meant to be more rides for children (The Lions).

"There was a lot of security on as usual. I'm sure when I meet with everyone for a debrief points will be raised."

The 2022 Queens Park fireworks display was attended by thousands with Many enjoyed the evening.
