Crewe race director gearing up for huge South Cheshire triathlon event this May
A Crewe race director is gearing up for a huge South Cheshire triathlon event taking place this May - with a kids duathlon taking place on the same weekend.
Cheshire Triathlon (age 16+) takes place in Nantwich on Sunday 21 May with a Cheshire UK Kids Fun Duathlon (age 5-16) taking place on Saturday 20 May.
Both Nantwich events are both taking place on Barony Park with the adults event also taking place at Nantwich Leisure Centre.
Cheshire Triathlon has been running in Nantwich for 30 years - with 2023 being the 31st time.
The events bring thousands of competitors and spectators to Nantwich - with those taking part also raising thousands for charities.
Race director of UK Triathlon, Keith Hancock, was born in Crewe, and is excited for the events taking place across 20 and 21 May.
Mr Hancock told Nub News: "I have been the race director for UK Triathlon for 21 years and have worked with UK Triathlon since 1998.
"Since then, we organised four events (in 1998), now we organise 18 events across five counties.
"This makes us the biggest race series across the UK.
"2023's Cheshire triathlon and Duathlon events are great for a healthy lifestyle. They're also perfect for beginners and pro-athletes alike."
The May events promise to be a fun day out for families, with a kid's play area on Barony Park and food and drinks available to all.
Barony Park also provides a large grassed area ideal for picnics.
Nantwich Leisure Centre has a 30.5 metre outdoor heated pool. It has one of the very last remaining inland brine pools in the whole of the UK.
Cheshire Triathlon will run from approximately 8am to 1pm with the Duathlon event running from 12pm onwards - with six distances to choose from.
There are a number of different races available to purchase for Cheshire Triathlon and the Kids Fun Duathlon.
A finishers medal will be handed out to every competitor who makes it to the finish line.
