A Crewe community pub is set to open all day for the Queen's funeral - making sure people who don't have loved ones at home 'aren't on their own.'

The Rising Sun Vaults, Earle Street, has announced it will be serving refreshments throughout Her Majesty's funeral service - televised on Monday (September 19).

Opposite Crewe's Grand Junction Retail Park, the pub has served the local community for more than 80 years.

the Rising Sun Vaults Landlady, Karen Burke Hurley, (right) - spoke to Nub News (Crewe Town Council).

"We have a lot of regulars that rely on us opening. They are on their own - some of their partners have passed away," says landlady Karen Burke Hurley.

The Rising Sun Vaults will remain open all day for Queen Elizabeth II's funeral - bringing in extra staff for the time it is televised.

Mrs Hurley said the pub understood the importance of socialising in bad times - especially on such a sad day for the UK.

The landlady said: "Rather than our regulars staying at home, we will put on some sandwiches for them with tea and coffee.

"This event is not for profit but to make sure people aren't on their own.

"If people want to come and watch the funeral around others they are more than welcome."

Mrs Hurley said regulars who come in to the pub are a variety of ages.

She believed the pub should provide an opportunity for them to watch the ceremony around others.

Mrs Hurley added: "We will be open all day and televise everything that happens surrounding the Queen's funeral.

"We are very much a community pub and have a strong set of regulars of multiple ages. Extra staff will be on for the ceremony."

The Rising Sun Vaults recently had a defibrillator installed outside the pub by Crewe Town Council.

The pub is open 12pm to 11pm, Sunday to Thursday - with opening times of 12pm to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Today (September 15), The Imperial, Edleston Road, announced it would also be showing the Queen's funeral on all seven tv screens.

The pubs' doors will be open from 10am until the evening. Free food and hot drinks will be put on for everyone who attends.
