A popular Crewe pub is 'excited' after getting the go ahead to extend its weekend opening hours until 3am - aiming to 'have a positive impact on nightlife' in the town.

On Tuesday 23 May, The Imperial, Edleston Road, had a premises license application approved - extending its opening hours by one hour on weekends, Thursday nights and Sunday nights.

"Instead of people trying to run off to Nantwich, the hour extensions will hopefully encourage people to stay and finish the night in Crewe," said joint-owner Lauri Pass.

The Imperial, Edleston Road, has been run by Lauri and Nick Pass since June 2017 (Ryan Parker).

The Imperial has been run by Lauri and Nick Pass since June 2017 - with the couple previously managing The Grand Junction, Heath Street.

Mrs Pass told Nub News: "We have been given the go ahead for to remain open until 1am on Thursday nights, 2am on Sunday nights and until 3am on Friday and Saturday nights.

"The Imp often gets busier later on in the evening - even when we have been closing at 2am on weekends.

"The hours extension will hopefully have a positive impact on nightlife in the area and keep people in Crewe venues.

"We have mixed up our DJs now and have installed a a new DJ booth which is wired up to the entire venue.

"This will help us to get more live music and entertainment back into the pub."

The Imperial is currently undergoing a refurbishment for the first time since Mr and Mrs Pass took over the reigns.

Interior walls and the ladies toilets have been redecorated to create a "modern" vibe - with floor tiles set to be revamped in the upcoming weeks.

A new DJ booth has also been installed - aiming improving the live entertainment offering in the venue.

Mrs Pass said: "We have redecorated the venue, which hadn't been done in eight years - we usually maintain it ourselves.

"We wanted to create a modern, fresh party feel in the venue. The ladies toilets has been renovated as have a lot of our walls inside the building.

"Every now and then, the brewery will invest in a refurbishment. They have just approved to change all of our tile flooring.

"All these exciting changes, along with the hours extension, aim to make The Imp the best venue to have a fun and safe night out in Crewe."

Mrs Pass believes The Imperial's recent changes will help to drive customers back into the venue.

With the opening hours extension, it is now the latest closing pub in the town.

Mrs Pass added: "We love running pubs, I got brought up in one, which is probably why I have so much passion for it.

"The only other Crewe venue I am aware of which now has a later license than us is Langtry's nightclub, Nantwich Road.

"At the moment, people can come in whenever they like before closing. This later closing time will be handy to people finishing late shifts in the areas - including pubs.

"The Imp tries to be a bit of everything - running different kinds of events for everyone.

The Imperial is now open 3pm to 12pm (Monday to Wednesday), 3pm to 1am (Thursday), 12pm to 3am (Friday and Saturday) and 12pm to 2am (Sunday) (Ryan Parker).

"We have such a mixture of ages, from 18 years old to 80 year olds. We like to keep everyone happy."
