A Crewe club, pub and hotel that permanently closed during lockdown, has reopened under new ownership - with big plans for the complex.

The Royal Hotel, Nantwich Road, was purchased by Crewe Hotels Limited, part of Brilliant Hotels - in May this year.

The 19th-century complex was sold off a guide asking price of £1.5m.

It consists of a 36-bedroom hotel, The Corner Bar pub and Langtry's function venue.

The Corner Bar, Nantwich Road, reopened at the end of May (Ryan Parker).

The Corner Bar reopened at the end of May and Langtry's had a trial opening over the Platinum Jubilee weekend. The function venue officially reopens on June 24.

"HS2 is drawing a lot of attention to Crewe.

"The company is employing a lot of local people and hosted a small jubilee party to get things started," says 'Steve' - employed to help get the club and pub back on the map.

Steve from Macclesfield, has lived in the West End of Crewe for over 20 years.

He was employed by managing director of Brilliant Hotels and director of Crewe Hotels, Mr Anoob Saban.

Langtry's, Nantwich Road, had a reopening trial night on June 4 (Ryan Parker).

The Crewe man works for music promoters Interdance, who helped to create Sterns nightclub in Worthing, Sussex during the early 90s.

The nightclub attracted headliners such as The Prodigy, Moby and Sasha.

Steve told Nub News: "We have over 30 years of experience putting on large scale events.

"We were asked to help out at Langtry's and get it back to the success before COVID."

Langtry's offically reopens on June 24 after a two-year absence (Ryan Parker).

Langtry's function venue first opened in 2019, under the ownership of Kerry Anne Bone - following a substantial investment.

The club started to gather momentum with locals, before having to close before lockdown. It never reopened and the entire complex was put up for sale.

The father-of-three said: "Kerry put a lot of hard work into Langtry's. She was so disappointed that it had to close down for the lockdown.

"The management team had built good relationship with Nantwich Road pubs.

"They ripped it all the inside of the building ready for Langtry's and made it an empty shell - it was a huge investment.

"I was recently chatting to people in The Corner Bar, they said they had never heard of Langtry's. even though is it just next door.

"Now is the time for it to get some recognition."

After a successful trial night over the Platinum Jubilee weekend, Steve is targeting a big music scene in Langtry's and The Corner Bar over the coming months.

"We want a band night in the venues as well as rock, indie, club, and dance nights.

"The team are trying to get in contact with old DJs that had regular slots here before lockdown because they were popular.

"We want to offer entertainment in just one of the two venues at one time - there is no need to conflict them.

"A regular DJ in The Corner Bar should work well."

Steve is also big sports fan and understands how important it is The Corner Bar appeals to home and away fans for Crewe Alex matches.

"We want local fans to integrate with away fans so it is the place to be on match days.

"I am advising on The Corner Bar on this. We are looking to get a table-top football in here.

"We are looking to create a pub football team - we will see how this idea progresses."

Brilliant Hotels saw Crewe as good business opportunity with the potential of the HS2 Crewe station coming to the town within the next decade.

There are a number of TV's spread across The Corner Bar, including these above the bar area (Ryan Parker).

"They are new to the area and are keen to build relationships with neighbours, said Steve.

The company has brought a lot of its own staff to The Corner Bar to get it up and running. It was content with have things have played out so far.

Steve added: "The trial night went really well. There was a steady flow of people.

Steve revealed that the new owners don't have any jurisdiction on former Box music venue that was demolished to become a multi-storey car park, five years ago.

The 243-space car park was approved in 2018 and is still expceted be built behind the locally-listed Royal Hotel complex.

Expressing his views on Crewe currently, Steve added: "I like Crewe, you get what you get.

A visual impression of how the multi-storey car park will look from Crewe Railway Station (Ryan Parker).

"I don't like people that try to put Crewe down. It annoys me.

"We have one of the best parks (Queens Park) and schools (St Thomas More) in Cheshire.

"There aren't enough things for young people around here though."

Steve has suggested creating an under-18s night at Langtry's for the youth of Crewe to enjoy.

"I have considered running under 18 community events where I hand them a budget and they book a DJ and sell tickets.

"I have spoken to a lot of schools already and they think it is a good idea", he said.

The new owners of The Royal Hotel have more plans for the complex. They will be revealed in the upcoming months.
