A Crewe primary and nursery school has celebrated 'significant improvements' in its latest Ofsted rating - following four years of work behind the scenes.

Gainsborough Primary & Nursery School, Belgrave Road, was pleased to discover it had been described as 'good' by Ofsted in the latest report.

Inspector's acknowledged the 'significant improvements to the quality of education at this school' - since the last inspection and recognised Gainsborough as a 'caring and nurturing school.'

Gainsborough's redesigned curriculum is described as 'ambitious and meeting the needs of pupils' (Gainsborough Primary School & Nursery).

The report describes the school's redesigned curriculum as 'ambitious and meeting the needs of pupils, including those with special educational needs' and classrooms as 'calm and purposeful.'

Early years (reception and Nursery) is described as a 'hive of activity with skilled staff seizing every opportunity to develop children's language skills through stories, rhymes and poems.'

Also recognised in the report is the school's 'polite and well-mannered pupils,' who 'appreciate and value difference' and who 'listen and concentrate well in class.'

The school was described as a 'caring and nurturing school' (Gainsborough Primary School & Nursery).

The report states 'pupils' personal development is promoted well' and 'they access an interesting range of trips and after school activities to broaden their experiences beyond the academic.'

The teaching of reading was highlighted in the report with 'well-trained staff delivering a new phonics programme consistently.'

Staff and governors are delighted with the result of this recent inspection, which they say accurately reflects the work done to improve the school over the last four years.
