Plans for an extension, new play area and cloakroom for Rainbow Childcare and Preschool, Wistaston Road, Crewe were approved on April 26.

A planning application submitted by a Crewe pre-school to Cheshire East Council, intending to build an extension to the nursery along with a new play area - has been approved with conditions.

Rainbow Childcare and Preschool, Wistaston Road, Crewe first submitted the plans on January 5.

The pre-school also plans to build a new cloakroom alongside the extension and new play area. It was approved by Cheshire East Planning Department yesterday (April 26).

Rainbow Childcare and Preschool, Wistaston Road, first opened in 2017. It has been a popular venue with parents to bring their children to in Crewe ever since.

Rainbow Preschool plans to be able to have 18 more children once the extension is complete.

Director of Rainbow PreSchool, Mr Mabs Hoque told Nub News: We started off as a different nursery on Stewart Street 11 years ago. As we grew bigger, we took on a new property on Wistaston Road and split the age groups.

"The Stewart Street nursery is now full and we want to offer more places. The extension on Wistaston Road will make a new room for two-year-olds.

"Currently we can have up to 32 children per day. With the new plans we could have up to 50 children."

According to the planning officer's report, the land in question for work has a history of railway works, car sales and depot, therefore it may be contaminated.

Recent information provided to Cheshire East Planning Department, suggests that the land may have once been part of a petrol filling station.

The council has now requested that Rainbow Preschool provide an updated risk assessment for land contamination within the proposals.

It has also requested that an asbestos survey should be undertaken prior to an building alteration works.

A site visit was undertaken by the Cheshire East Planning case officer on April 13.

Work carried out in 2017 for the new Rainbow Preschool on Wistaston Road, Crewe.

The case officer's report for the site concluded: "It is considered that the proposal is of an acceptable design, that would have minimal impact upon the amenities of the surrounding properties.

"The proposal would comply with local policies contained within the Borough of Crewe and Nantwich Local Plan 2011, the Cheshire East Local Plan Strategy as well as the National Planning Policy Framework.

"As such, the proposal is considered to be acceptable and is therefore recommended for approval - subject to conditions."

This week, Cheshire East Highways donated puffin crossings for the Wistaston Road pre-school playground area.

Workmen secured the crossings into the ground for the pre school children to immediately play with.

Rainbow Childcare and Preschool posted on social media: " We are very pleased to have some new puffin crossings fitted in the preschool playground area.

"Cheshire East Highways have kindly donated these to us. They also worked very hard to secure them into the ground.

"This will help the children to learn about crossing safely and help them with spacial awareness."

Cheshire East Highways workmen installed puffin crossings in the Rainbow Preschool play area (Rainbow Pre School).

Construction works for the new extension, play area and cloakroom are ordered to take place from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 2pm on Saturdays.
