A Crewe petrol station and convenience store is set to be acquired by a supermarket giant with another 131 sites part of the plans - including Sandbach and Holmes Chapel.

Co-op Petrol, Bradfield Road, is set to become an Asda convenience store - following a £600 million deal set be completed by the end of this year.

Yesterday (August 31), Asda announced it had agreed to acquire 132 sites from The Co-operative Group.

12 of the total sites Asda has purchased are located within the North West of England - including Crewe, Sandbach and Holmes Chapel (Wikimedia Commons).

The purchase includes 129 established sites, ranging between 1,500 and 3,000 square feet - with an attached petrol filling station.

There are also another three sites still under development - located in London, Horncastle and Wool.

The sale of these 132 UK Co-op sites represents 5% of its real estate portfolio.

12 of the total sites are located within the North West of England:

  • Petrol Bradfield Road, Crewe
  • Petrol Chorley, Chorley
  • Petrol Clitheroe, Clitheroe
  • Petrol Cross Hillocks, Manchester
  • Petrol Handbridge – Queen's Park Rd, Chester
  • Petrol Holmes Chapel, Holmes Chapel
  • Petrol Hopwood, Heywood
  • Petrol Lindow, Wilmslow

Asda's purchase includes 129 established sites, ranging between 1,500 and 3,000 square feet - with an attached petrol filling station (Ryan Parker).

Co-op Petrol, Bradfield Road, is open Monday to Saturday 5am to midnight. It is also open 7am to midnight on Sundays.

The convenience store has a DPD parcel service and an Amazon Counter, as well as an Amazon Locker and Costa Coffee drinks machine.

In February 2021, brothers Mohsin Issa and Zuber Issa, as well as TDR Capital, acquired Asda.

Later last year, an Asda 'On The Move' convenience store opened up at the Euro Garages outlet on Crewe Commercial Park, Jack Mills Way.

Asda On The Move took over this petrol station, off Jack Mills Way in 2021 (Google).

This was the first Asda convenience store to open in Crewe.

Asda has its headquarters in Leeds, Yorkshire. As of December 2021, the British chain has 633 locations.

Earlier this summer, Asda posted two new job adverts for property acquisition managers, aiming to "spearhead our plans to develop a convenience chain, a new format for the business".

The acquisition of the Crewe site, among others, demonstrates the companies' growth ambitions.

Asda aims to create a new format in the convenience market - appealing to more local communities.
