'Anxious' Crewe mum fears for autistic daughter after youths kick front door

A Crewe mum has spoken of her fears after youths kicked her front door on Meredith Street, describing it as an ongoing problem.

Sophie Deegan Brooks shared footage showing a youth slamming the door hard with a backwards kick on Sunday 25 October at 5.59pm.

She said her autistic daughter often plays in the hallway near the front door, which the family ensure is locked.

During a previous incident, the door was kicked open with her daughter just millimetres away.

Sophie said the family had been left anxious about the possibility of the door flying open again and potentially injuring her daughter.

She added that footage of those responsible had been captured previously, but the incidents had continued.

Sophie said: "Ever since the last time we have been so anxious that the door would fly open again and possibly hurt our already vulnerable daughter.

"We shouldn't have to have these sorts of worries in this day and age.

"Why do they feel it is acceptable or even funny to do this? To cause damage to property and possibly cause injury to a child? It's a disgrace frankly.

"When and how will those kids learn that it is not ok?"

Sophie said she had not reported the latest incident to police, as she felt no action had been possible when she reported a previous incident.

She hoped sharing the footage would help raise awareness and make clear that the behaviour was unacceptable.

Another local resident said the incidents had been happening intermittently for the past 18 months.

They said: "These incidents have been happening on and off since I moved to this area 18 months ago, incidents have been reported but they are still continuing.

"It's so frustrating as it's a loud bang, scaring my pets and it leaves marks all over the door, it's vandalism."
