A Crewe mum has created a huge Halloween garden display to 'put a smile on people's faces' - attracting visitors from as far as Winsford.

The display on Merlin Way started on Saturday (October 1) - running every night until Halloween.

"This display has just blown up, I didn't expect it to. People have been coming down from Winsford which shocked me," says Miss Maria Connell.

Maria Connell created the Halloween garden display to put a smile on people's faces (Ryan Parker).

The Crewe mum-of-four has been running the Halloween display for the past three years.

Miss Connell has been inspired to put a smile on people's faces - cheering up local children and their families in the midst of difficult times.

The halloween display has gained more popularity since a recent social media post (October 17) - encouraged by her daughter.

Miss Connell told Nub News: "I've been quite prepared getting huge pots of sweets for the kids. It was my daughter's idea to post the display on social media.

"It's been a bit of a winner really I must admit. I haven't seen many decorated houses in Crewe so far.

The Halloween display is turned on at 6pm every night and runs until approximately 8pm (Ryan Parker).

"I am so grateful my neighbours allow me to do this display. It's great I have a large front garden."

The Crewe mum stays at home to look after her eldest son and youngest son with ADHD.

She often sits inside the house seeing local children enjoy the display.

Miss Connell said: "All through lockdown I purchased a lot of inflatable costumes. I would often stand by the road with them waving at people.

"My kids think I am mad but it's just putting a smile on people's faces - it makes my day."

Maris Connell has wired-up bluetooth speakers and flashing lights around the Halloween decorations and trees (Ryan Parker).

The 40-year-old has wired-up bluetooth speakers and flashing lights around the Halloween decorations and trees - creating an eerie feel to the display.

Miss Connell added: "I have a playlist of a little girl saying come play hide and seek with me. I also have a smoke machine. It sets the mood.

"At night it's ridiculous. The neighbours don't put on their security lights because this lights the entire close up.

"I love this display. I love doing it and seeing people's faces. Visitors coming to see this from Winsford as well. I didn't expect that."

Miss Connell believes her display will help local children and families get into the Halloween sprit.

The Crewe Halloween display has attracted visitors from Winsford (Ryan Parker).

She added: "There are families out there that can't afford costumes for their children.

"This display allows them to all feel in the Halloween spirit for free."

The Halloween display is turned on at 6pm every night and runs until approximately 8pm. This time will get later as Halloween approaches.
