A Crewe man who carried medical kits in his car all the way to Ukraine is planning to do it again, tomorrow (March 23).
Retired Network Engineer, Steve Bratherton from Haslington, set off on a 1500 mile trip across Europe on Saturday (March 12), in response to the conflict in Ukraine.
After taking 40 burns treatment kits to the Polish/Ukraine border to help the injured out of his own pocket and costing more than £4000, Steve feels he is duty bound to do it again.
Steve told Nub News today: "I'm going again as I feel that it is my duty to help these people, having seen it all first hand.
"I am staying longer to make a real difference and will be leaving at 5:30am tomorrow morning."
Steve is severely disabled following a hit and run incident three years ago. He lost the use of his left leg and walks with a quad stick, but that doesn't stop him driving for those in need.
Steve posted on social media today: "Tomorrow morning I leave for the Ukrainian border again and will arrive on Friday night.
"I will be taking Rescue Medical Kits to the value of £3200, if anyone would like to contribute please take a look at the Go Fund Me link.
"I will be staying out there for two weeks to help transfer refugees to different centres in Poland."
The 64-year-old is encouraging everyone to share and get behind his Go Fund Me page. He jokingly said he will be eating bread and jam for the next 12 months if there aren't enough contributions.
You can view the Go Fund Me page that Steve set up here. So far donations have reached £5,482.
