A Crewe man has been handed a suspended prison sentence, after admitting to racially abusing and harassing NHS staff at Leighton Hospital.

James Anthony Lyons, 41, of Fairburn Avenue, appeared at Chester Magistrates' Court on Saturday 16 March.

This followed an incident on the morning of Friday 15 March, where he was arrested for causing issues at Leighton Hospital.

Lyons was reportedly being verbally abusive to NHS staff, racially abusive and refusing to leave the site.

After being charged with these offences, Lyons pleaded guilty to 'cause without reasonable excuse on NHS premises, a nuisance/disturbance.'

He also pleaded guilty to 'racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment, alarm and distress.'

Lyons was sentenced to 15 weeks imprisonment, suspended for 12 months and fined £160.
