High schools across Crewe have celebrated students collecting their GCSE and vocational results - from exams sat for the first time in three years (2019).
Hundreds of thousands of UK students received GCSE and vocational results on Thursday (25 August).
The four Crewe high schools of Ruskin Community High School, Ruskin Road, St Thomas More Catholic High School, Dane Bank Avenue, The Oaks Academy, Buchan Grove and Sir William Stanier School, Coronation Street - celebrated their students collecting grades.
It was the first time in three years that students sat summer GCSE examinations as the country returned to normality post-COVID.
What has been said by Crewe high schools?
The Oaks Academy saw a continued improvement in GCSE results.
A spokesperson of the high school said: "Students have worked exceptionally hard, demonstrating fantastic resilience to gain these results.
"In particular, the results in English and Maths have significantly improved with students achieving standard or strong passes doubling this academic year.
"Nationally, GCSE results have shown a decline but this in stark contrast to the positive progress made by Year 11 students at The Oaks Academy this year where results have continued to improve across the school."
Headteacher, Peter Kingdom, congratulated the students on their hard work and well-deserved success.
Mr Kingdom said: "These results represent a tremendous achievement for the students who have worked incredibly hard to achieve this level of success.
"I would also like to commend the efforts of the staff, who have provided the individual care and attention that has enabled so many of our students to meet and, in many cases, exceed their personal targets.
"There are so many high achieving students this year, but special mention goes to Alicja M, Wiktoria L, Martina I, Arleta S and Sophie T, who achieved strong grades in their subjects - including a range of 9s, 8s and 7s."
Ruskin Community High School was delighted for its students, posting on social media: "We are really proud of all of our students again this year.
"They have worked incredibly hard and shown great resilience achieving well despite the challenges of the pandemic.
"Congratulations to all of our students on their individual successes and we wish them well for the future."
St Thomas More reacted to results day, posting on social media: "What a wonderful day of celebrations.
"Well done to all our Year 11 who have been so successful."
Sir William Stanier also commented on its students results, posting on social media: "Congratulations to all of our students on GCSE results day. Your hard work paid off."
What are the GCSE results statistics across the UK?
GCSE results across the UK are higher than in 2019 but lower than in 2021.
Just over three-quarters (75.3%) of GCSE grades for 16-year-olds in England are at grade 4 or above.
This is up from 69.9% in 2019 and down from 79.1% in 2021, in line with the policy intent set out by Ofqual last year - ensuring fairness for students.
What has been said by the UK government?
Education Secretary James Cleverly MP said: "Students receiving their results should be extremely proud, and I want to congratulate them all.
"The teaching profession has worked incredibly hard and these results are a testament to the resilience of both our students and staff.
"We have the most exciting range of post-16 options for students to choose from now, whether that's one of our exciting new T Levels, an apprenticeship or A levels. There is an option for everyone.
"I wish students the very best of luck, no matter what those next steps are."
Did students receive any additional support following COVID?
This year, Crewe GCSE students were supported with a range of adaptations, including advanced information on the content of some exams, formula sheets and content optionality.
Some students doing vocational and technical qualifications were given longer assessment windows.
What next for students after receiving their results?
Students who collected their results will progress to one of a number of options, including A levels, T Levels or an apprenticeship.
Cheshire College - South and West, Dane Bank Avenue, encouraged students to enrol with them after getting their grades.
The Crewe college posted on social media, saying: Got your GCSE results? Then why not come down to one of our Campuses and enrol with us?
"Our friendly and supportive staff will talk you through your options and help to choose the right course(s) for you."
From September there will be 16 T Levels available for young people to study. This will be available in subjects including digital, health, accounting, engineering and construction.
This will be offered at over 175 schools and colleges across England - including Crewe's Cheshire College - South and West.
