Crewe girl, 11, dies after being found in Fuerteventura hotel pool

An 11-year-old girl from Crewe has died, after being found unresponsive in a hotel swimming pool while on holiday in Fuerteventura.
The inquest opening into the death of Francesca Mae Blease heard she was discovered in the pool on 7 August in the Esquinzo area of the island.
Cheshire Police confirmed she was taken to hospital in Gran Canaria but died the following day, 8 August, when her life support machine was switched off.
On Wednesday 3 September, Coroner's officer, Paul Downey, told the court the tragedy happened while Francesca was on holiday with her family.
At the short hearing, Coroner, Victoria Davies, said that, given the circumstances, there was an unnatural cause of death, and a full inquest would be required.
The full inquest has been scheduled for 27 January, 2026.
