Crewe firefighters rescue injured horse trapped in barbed wire

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service rescued an injured horse trapped in barbed wire - taking two hours to safely set the animal free.

The incident happened at 8:21pm on Barthomley Road, Barthomley, yesterday (August 25) - just four miles from Crewe.

A horse had fallen down an embankment and become trapped in barbed wire.

One fire engine from Crewe and one from Lymm, Warrington, attended the incident - setting the horse free.

It took the Cheshire firefighters approximately two hours to safety and carefully set the horse free.

The animal suffered minor injuries - but nothing life threatening.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue service spokesperson told Nub News: "Crews spent around two hours releasing a horse that had fallen down an embankment and had become snared on barbed wire.

It took Crewe and Lymm firefighters approximately two hours to safety and carefully set the horse free (Ryan Parker).

"The animal was brought to its feet and was able to walk."

On Saturday (August 20), Cheshire firefighters rescued a three-year-old pony 'stuck' inside a vehicle - following a collision near Crewe.

Three-year-old pony, Romeo, became trapped when a heavy goods vehicle collided with a vehicle pulling a horse trailer on the A500 Barthomley.

Fire engines from Alsager, Lymm and Bollington along with a crew from Leek (Staffs Fire and Rescue Service), arrived at the scene - rescuing the pony.

On Saturday (August 20), Cheshire firefighters rescued a three-year-old pony stuck inside a vehicle - following a collision near Crewe (Cheshire Fire and Rescue).

All people involved in the incident survived without any major injuries.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Romeo was reported to be doing well after his ordeal."
