Several Crewe eateries have been boosted with new five-star food hygiene ratings, according to recent Food Standard Agency (FSA) reports.

The Food Standard Agency (FSA) Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, is aimed at helping people choose where to eat out or shop for food.

The FSA scheme is in partnership with local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

A five-star hygiene rating means 'hygiene standards are very good' for the business (Nub News).

It gives businesses a rating from 0 to 5 - displayed at their premises and online.

All information was taken from the Food Standard Agency website as of Tuesday 28 January:

• Bunz N Shakes - 168 Nantwich Road - (19 December, 2024)
• Fortune House - 27 Walthall Street - (19 November, 2024)
• Jalfrezi Curry House / Red Roosters / DC Fried Chicken, Nantwich Road - 81 Nantwich Road - (14 January, 2025)
• Marmaris - 14 West Street - (November 25, 2024)
• The Plaice - 17 West Street - (November 16, 2024)

A food safety officer from Cheshire East Council inspected the Crewe eateries to check if they were following food hygiene law and ensuring the food sold was safe to eat.

At all inspections, the officer checked the following three elements: 

• How hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
• The physical condition of the business –including cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation, pest control and other facilities
• How the business manages ways of keeping food safe, looking at processes, training and systems to ensure good hygiene is maintained. The officer can then assess the level of confidence in standards being maintained in the future.

Bunz N Shakes, Fortune House, Jelfezi Curry House/Red Roosters/ DC Fried Chicken, Marmaris and The Plaice were all rated five-star based on these checks.
