Crewe drink driver charged after being one over legal limit at roadside
A Crewe man has been arrested and charged with drink driving, after being caught by officers on the east side of town.
On Wednesday 10 April, Cheshire Police received reports of a drink driver in a grey Volkswagen Transporter from a member of the public.
At around 4am, officers sighted the vehicle in Crewe East, pulling it over.
Lee Smith, 46, of Farrier Court, was arrested after providing a roadside breath test reading of 36, one over the legal limit.
In police custody, the Crewe man provided an evidential breath test reading of 44.
Smith has been charged with driving whilst exceeding the prescribed limit and will appear at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Thursday 9 May.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "On Wednesday 10 April, at roughly 4am, we received an emergency call reporting a drink driver in a grey Volkswagen Transporter.
"Crewe Response Team sighted the vehicle in Crewe East and stopped the transporter.
"A roadside breath test was performed on the driver, who provided a reading of 36ug (the legal limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath). He was subsequently arrested.
"Lee Smith, 46, of Farrier Court, Crewe, has been charged with driving whilst exceeding the prescribed limit.
"He provided an evidential breath reading of 44ug whilst in custody and has been bailed to appear at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Thursday 9 May."
