Two Crewe CW2 eateries were recently hit with a FSA one-star food hygiene rating - Nub News investigates which ones they are.

The Food Standard Agency (FSA) Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, is aimed at helping people choose where to eat out or shop for food.

The FSA scheme is in partnership with local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

A one-star hygiene rating means 'major improvement is necessary' for the business (FSA).

It gives businesses a rating from 0 to 5 - displayed at their premises and online.

A one-star hygiene rating means 'major improvement is necessary' for the business.

All information was taken from the Food Standard Agency website as of Tuesday 25 April:

  • Chef Iszy, Nantwich Road (Chinese) - One-star - (March 22, 2023).

Chef Iszy, Nantwich Road, was rated one-star for food hygiene in March (Google).

  • Fatu's Kitchen, Nantwich Road (African) - One-star (February 25, 2023).

Fatu's Kitchen, Nantwich Road, was rated one-star for food hygiene in February (Ryan Parker).

A food safety officer from Cheshire East Council inspected the Crewe businesses to check that they were following food hygiene law so that the food was safe to eat.

At all inspections, the officer checked the following three elements:

  • How hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
  • The physical condition of the business –including cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation, pest control and other facilities
  • How the business manages ways of keeping food safe, looking at processes, training and systems to ensure good hygiene is maintained. The officer can then assess the level of confidence in standards being maintained in the future.

The two listed Crewe businesses were rated one-star based on all these checks.

Crewe Nub News has contacted the eateries for comment.
