Crewe council candidate joins local residents and MP in spring clean at popular park
A Crewe council candidate joined local residents and the town's MP in a spring clean mission at a popular park within the town - finding an old Xbox and half a television.
James Pratt, council candidate for Crewe St Barnabas, was joined by Crewe Clean Team volunteers for the second annual community litter pick at Leighton Brook Park, off Frank Webb Avenue.
The group were joined by Crewe and Nantwich MP, Dr Kieran Mullan, and Haslington councillor, Steven Edgar, who got 'stuck in' with the litter picking.
A huge amount of litter and fly tipping was collected from the Crewe park - including an old Xbox and half a television.
James told Nub News: "I'd like to thank everyone who came along to help out, including David Scott who was a former resident at Beechmere before the fire in August 2019 who hopes to move back to the community when it is rebuilt.
"We were also joined by Crewe and Nantwich MP, Dr Kieran Mullan, and Haslington councillor, Steven Edgar, who got stuck in with the litter picking."
"A huge amount of litter and fly tipping was collected, including two lawn mowers, two garden strimmers, garden chairs a video recorder, an old Xbox and half a television.
"It is great to have the park clean and fresh ready for the bank holiday weekend and ahead of the new £100k playground currently being planned for the the park located on Frank Webb Avenue."
If St Barnabas residents would like to join in with the next litter pick at Leighton Brook Park this summer, or get involved with other community activities in the area they can join the local St Barnabas online newsletter HERE.
James added: "I'm a St Barnabas resident who is campaigning in local elections to bring improvements to our area.
"One of my top priorities is being to tackle the issues we have litter, fly-tipping and dog fouling that blights not just this area of Crewe, but all across the town as a whole."
Anyone anywhere in Crewe can also get involved with Crewe Clean Team which is an environmental group with over 200 volunteer members.
Crewe Clean Team was formed in January 2012 and have frequent litter picks around the town - organised by local resident David McDonald.
The group of volunteers recycle drinks cans they find and were recently awarded the Green Can Award by Every Can Counts for our achievement of recycling over 200,000 aluminium cans.
