A Crewe convenience store and petrol station is set to close and reopen as an Asda, following a £438 million deal completed last year.

Co-op Food - Petrol, Bradfield Road, will close on Monday 6 November, relaunching as an Asda Express on Wednesday 8 November.

This change comes after Asda announced it had agreed to acquire 132 sites from The Co-operative Group in August 2022.

Asda announced it had agreed to acquire 132 sites from The Co-operative Group in August 2022, which was completed in December 2022 (Ryan Parker).

Of these sites, 129 were established, ranging between 1,500 and 3,000 square feet, with an attached petrol filling station.

Other local Co-op's with petrol stations set to become an Asda Express include Saxon Cross, Sandbach and Middlewich Road, Holmes Chapel.

Last December, Asda co-owner, Mohsin Issa, said: "We are delighted to formally complete the transaction that we announced in August [2022] and taking the next step on our journey to creating a new and exciting part of our Asda business.

Empty shelves. Staff from Co-op Food - Petrol will be moved over to the new Crewe Asda Express store (Ryan Parker).

"As millions of families deal with the day-to-day impacts of increasing costs of living, we're committed to bringing Asda's great value groceries and fuel to even more communities across the UK through these new stores.

"Over the last five years we've been consistently ranked as one of the cheapest providers of fuel in the UK and have been voted the Grocer's best priced supermarket for 25 years in a row.

"This means customers in these communities can look forward to saving millions annually on the cost of filling their shopping trolleys and tanks when Asda comes to town.

"We look forward to working collaboratively with the CMA on their investigation and to welcoming our new Asda colleagues to our great business in the coming months."
