An independent Crewe coffee shop has announced it will close after less than two years in business.

Big Mugs, Edleston Road, will serve its final customers on Sunday 2 August.

Owners, Josh Wenlock and Laura Donaldson, said they had made the "difficult decision" to close as they move forward in their careers, with scheduling conflicts making it increasingly difficult to run the café.

As well as serving fresh, locally-sourced coffeee, Big Mugs sells home-baked cakes, paninis, ciabatta sandwiches, teacakes, croissants and more.

In a statement, Laura and Josh said: "We have come to the difficult decision to close Big Mugs at the start of August, with our final day being 2 August, 2026.

"As we both move forward in our careers, we've ran into scheduling conflicts that have forced us to reduce our opening hours, and this month, we regretfully are only able to open three times a week."

The independent café will operate reduced opening hours until its closure, with its final weekend of trading taking place from Friday 31 July to Sunday 2 August.

Big Mugs confirmed Gumshoe Comics and Collectibles has been informed of the closure, with its weekly Games Night continuing to be hosted at the café on Thursday evenings and Sundays until the business shuts.

The local owners are also selling their remaining Big Mugs tote bags for £4.

Paying tribute to those who supported the business, they added: "We'll never forget the support our customers, our clients and our incredible staff have shown us.

"We feel honoured we were able to share our own little caffeinated oasis with you for almost two years."

The dog-friendly café, which seats around 30 people, was one of the businesses supported by Crewe's Open in Crewe scheme, offering grants to businesses taking on vacant town centre premises.

Big Mugs is now facing the same fate as Oden Lounge, which ceased trading in June, under owners, Opeyemi and Duduyemi Opaleye, who relocated to North America.

The High Street premises, which has a summer rooftop garden, is due to be taken over by a Crewe business this summer.
