With the Winter Fuel Allowance for older people scrapped, a Crewe charity has responded by doubling its efforts to support those most vulnerable across South Cheshire.

In partnership with Cadent Gas, The Wishing Well has assured the local community it will provide additional support for those who will be directly affected by this latest policy change.

The Wishing Well currently delivers a range of community health and wellbeing services reaching people of all ages and within all aspects of the community.

Its community flagship service delivered from Jubilee House in Crewe, The Daily Meals & Welfare Project, delivers approximately 130 freshly prepared, hot meals every day across south Cheshire reaching people in Crewe, Nantwich, Sandbach, Alsager and the surrounding rural areas.

This winter, the charity has now pledged to deliver 150 Wishing Well fleeced blankets to support those who may have to reduce the amount of fuel they use at home.

In partnership with Cadent Gas, The Wishing Well will also deliver 150 slow cookers immediately to enable people to lower their fuel consumption, helping to cut household costs.

The Wishing Well has a strong track record of supporting those who need it most during the most challenging times.

Its response to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent cost of living crisis has helped thousands of local people who were left vulnerable and isolated.

The Wishing Well Chair of Trustees, Richard Weilding, told Nub News: "Our day-to-day activities at Wishing Well continue to support several sectors of the local community and at this time of year we have a significant focus on older people as days become shorter and colder.

"This year so many will be hit by the loss of the Winter Fuel Allowance, we have felt it essential that we react in providing positive support to the elderly.

"Our schemes will do this in a targeted way in order to produce effective positive outcomes to vulnerable members of our community."
