A Crewe charity has helped bring a school's new 'Forest School' to life, with a special handmade donation.

Supported Community Business (SCB), Gateway, has donated wooden planters to Vine Tree Primary School, Dane Bank Avenue.

The Crewe-based charity supports adults with additional needs.

Its service users built the planters themselves as part of activities designed to develop skills, confidence and independence.

They visited the school on Wednesday 4 November to deliver their work and see it become part of the new outdoor learning area.

The project was made possible by a grant from the Forbes Charitable Foundation, allowing SCB to donate planters to schools, charities and community groups across Crewe.

The Rotary Club of Crewe and Nantwich Weaver also helped bring the organisations together.

Simon and Diane from the club donated seedlings and plants, while the Sydney Arms provided compost.

Chief executive of SCB, Alex Muirhead, said: "For our service users, seeing something they have made become part of the school garden is a lovely opportunity to share their skills and take pride in their work."

Forest School Leader at Vine Tree Primary School, Roma Street, said the support would give children more opportunities to learn and explore.

She said: "It is truly wonderful to see our local community coming together to help create such a special space for our children.

"These acts of kindness will give the children fantastic opportunities to learn, explore, grow and develop a love for the natural world."

Miss Street said she had put a lot of time and effort into creating the Forest School and was overjoyed by the support.

She said the donation was a fantastic way to officially open the space to pupils, with plenty more ideas planned for its future.

SCB is inviting other local schools, charities and community groups interested in receiving a planter donation to find out more through its website.
