RESIDENTS of a Crewe care village have been reunited with relatives.
There were emotional scenes when the Belong complex on Brookhouse Drive welcomed back family members for garden visits.
Elderly residents at the community village, which includes apartments for independent living and supported 'households', have been locked down since March with all visits from their loved ones banned.
But now staff have set up weather-proofed gazebos and socially distanced tables and chairs in the grounds to host the reunions. Other safety measures in place include the deep cleaning of areas between visitors, the provision of PPE on arrival and a booking system.
The home says the outdoor visits have proved crucial to the wellbeing of residents, who have not seen their family and friends in person for more than three months due to the pandemic.
Kathryn Farmer, general manager at Belong Crewe, said: "It's been incredibly emotional seeing relatives back at the village, with a lot of smiles and tears all around.
"We know how hard it's been for residents to be away from their loved ones for this long and so we are thrilled that the safe introduction of garden visits has brought them some happiness during these challenging times."
Belong is currently COVID-19 clear following testing of all residents and staff and it says it is continuing to monitor everyone closely.
Visits are to be arranged by appointment and are available seven days a week. For more information, ring Belong Crewe on 01270 561200.
