Crewe care home plans will "invade privacy" of neighbours say councillors

COUNCILLORS say they "strongly object" to a Crewe care home's expansion plans.

Telford Court NursingHome wants to build a two-story 18-bed specialist unit on a landscaped area next to their current home on Dunwoody Way.

The scheme, which has been submitted to Cheshire East Council, includes extra on-site car parking, gardens and an expansion of the existing bin store.

But residents in Moss Field Place, which backs onto the care home's land, are worried their privacy is under threat and fear more smells from bin waste.

Crewe Town councillors agree with them and say the height of the new unit is problematic.

Cllr Dennis Straine-Francis told the town council's planning committee: "This is right up to the fence of people's gardens and it will take away all their privacy. People won't be able to go into their gardens without being seen."

Cllr Tom Dunlop said: "All the people who have written say they are being overlooked from the first floor. I don't see how we can agree to this without saying they need to make some sort of change to the plans."

Among those objecting to the plans, one resident of Moss Field Place commented: "The music in the kitchen at Telford court can be heard (now) and by the looks of the proposed building there will be another kitchen closer to our homes so I dread to think what noise will come from there.

"The proposed building looks too close to our homes and this makes me worry about our privacy. I have had to ring Telford court a few times about staff just standing at windows looking over towards the properties."

The resident also added their concerns over the construction of the new building and said it would revive bad memories of how a crane toppled when Telford Court was being built in 2017, killing three workers.

Members of the planning committee, meeting on Zoom, agreed they would not support the application which is being determined under delegated authority by Cheshire East.

Cllr John Rhodes said they "strongly objected" as they felt the site is being overdeveloped. They cited the "proximity" to neighbouring properties, noise from the site and issues with the bin storage.
