Golfers were back on the fairways to help Crewe employer The County Group - raising a bumper sum for charity.

Based on Crewe Business Park, the insurance broking group drew 13 teams of players to Wychwood Park Golf Club, Weston.

The teams played in a golf tournament raising over £2000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

The RNLI is a charity that has been saving lives at sea for close to 200 years. It is mainly powered through generous donations like this one from the Crewe employer.

The County Group are based at Crewe Business Park, Crewe (Google).

County Group CEO Alastair Christopherson said: "There's always tremendous enthusiasm for this event and after the successful relaunch last year, players were out in full force again to support the charity.

"There was friendly rivalry throughout the day as the tournament progressed and some very skilful play in the individual competitions. Win or lose, the teams had a very enjoyable day and we were delighted with their generosity."

Three of the teams came from the County Group headquarters on Crewe Business Park.

Two of the came from Rawlins Insurance, Newcastle-under-Lyme, with others from Kindertons Accident Management, Crewe, Guardian Insurance, Wigan, software specialists, Open GI, Worcester and Premium Credit Ltd finance company and Milestone Insurance, Leeds.

Global Risk Partners, the County Group's parent company, and Zurich Insurance were also represented on a memorable day that raised more than £2000.

Triumphant winners were Rawlins team two who split a £200 prize pot. Runners-up were Open GI and in third place, Guardian Insurance.

The day began with bacon rolls and was rounded off with a presentation and slap up dinner of pie, chips and peas.

County Insurance employee Cheryl Shrigley (PA) and Linda Catterall from GRP kept the golfers fuelled throughout the day with drinks and snacks from their golf buggy.

The charity was chosen by John Lawson, chairman of the RNLI Congleton branch.

The golf tournament raised over £2000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Mr Lawson was the original owner of Heath & Blackshaw Insurance in Congleton, taken over by the County Group in 2003.

Long-standing fundraising efforts from the Crewe employers have continued - including six annual golf events to date.
