The NHS Parliamentary Awards has represented a a chance for MPs such as Dr Mullan, to say thank you for all the work done to support the NHS in the local community.

Louise Smith, an Inflammatory Bowel Disease Specialist at Leighton Hospital was nominated by a former patient for the Nursing and Midwifery award for being so supportive and always on hand to answer questions during their treatment.

Additionally, the Cheshire Covid-19 Vaccination Team have been nominated for the Covid-19 Response Award, recognising the amazing work they have done during the pandemic to get jabs into arms as quickly and as safely as possible.

After learning she had been nominated, Louise Smith said: "I feel like a winner already to be nominated in the first place.

"It means a lot to me that my patients appreciate the care they are given, and I get great satisfaction especially when I help them to get better from their chronic disease."

The Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust applauded the nomination, saying: "Louise has always put the patients at the heart of what she does, she goes above and beyond within her role continually staying after hours and working weekends to ensure her patients receive the highest possible standard of care.

"Louise liaises with other departments to ensure the patient has a streamlined journey in the hospital and adapts to her patients' requirements.

Louise Smith was nominated for the Nursing and Midwifery award. Leighton Hospital from Smithy Lane, Crewe (Ryan Parker).

"For example, if a patient needed to see several different specialities, Louise would alter an appointment to suit the patients' needs.

"Louise is a competent, compassionate practitioner who is empathetic in her approach. This has been tested over the past two years due to the pandemic as most nurse appointments have been revised and conducted over the telephone instead of patients visiting the hospital for appointments.

"Louise is dedicated to the IBD service, she in-reaches to all of our in-patient areas and nothing is ever too much trouble. With her clinical expertise, she supports all members of staff and students.

"Her contribution to patient safety is why Louise is well deserved of this nomination for this award."

With the COVID-19 pandemic being a global health emergency on a scale not seen for a century, the NHS responded as best they could to the constantly changing situation.

NHS Staff in Crewe and Nantwich had to to come together like never before and make sacrifices during hard times.

Dr Kieran Mullan added: "I want to thank everyone who has brought forward their stories and suggestions for NHS Parliamentary Award nominees.

"The NHS Parliamentary Awards recognise the vital work that all NHS staff do day in and day out.

Cheshire's Covid-19 Vaccination Scheme, suggested as a nomination from the Cheshire and Wirral NHS Partnership (Dr Kieran Mullan).

"These nominations single out just a handful of the hard-working NHS staff who have gone above and beyond in caring for patients – particularly over the past couple of years when we have needed them more than ever."
