Crewe BP petrol forecourt closed off for fifth day running

SEVERAL Crewe garages have been without fuel for days - and one BP outlet has seen its forecourt dry since last Saturday.

The pump crisis continues to frustrate motorists around town with the supply chain up and down across petrol stations.

The pumps at the BP garage on Crewe Road has been shut for five days with multiple deliveries cancelled, it is understood.

BP was the first petrol company to warn the government a week ago that it was experiencing problems. It said it would restrict deliveries of petrol and diesel to its network to ensure continuity of supply.

It cited the ongoing shortage of HGV drivers and that most locations would not be restocked for one-and-a-half days a week.

But in Crewe staff say there have been no deliveries since last week and that it would require two tankers to stock the forecourt up to a level at which pumps could reopen; a delivery has been scheduled tonight (Thursday), but previous deliveries have failed to materialise at the station operated by the Motor Fuel Group.

In contrast, the UK's largest independent forecourt operator also runs the Shell garage on Bradfield Road and that was dispensing fuel today.

Yet other stations have closed off as the situation remains unpredictable. The Co-op petrol station on Bradfield Road was coned off this afternoon.

As was the Esso station on Victoria Avenue, where again the pumps have not been in action for several days.
