Crewe artist's talents set to go under the hammer - 11 years after suffering from stroke
A local charity patient is set to have her dream realised as a painting she recently created will be auctioned off - 11 years after suffering from a stroke.
Jo Hatton, from Crewe, created the artwork on St Luke's Hospice's Art Therapy course - all proceeds at the auction will go to the local charity.
As a child, Mrs Hatton, was repeatedly told by teachers that she shouldn't bother with anything artistic.
The Crewe mother-of-four told Nub News: "I was always told that painting 'wasn't for me,' so although I've been fascinated with art all my life, this is the first time I've picked up a paintbrush.
"I can honestly say it's given me a new lease of life."
Mrs Hatton suffered from a stroke 11 years ago, aged just 43. This left her with left-side weakness and cognitive impairment.
She also has a long-term lung condition called 'Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease,' which severely limits daily activities.
Under the watchful eye of Northwich-based artist and course facilitator Kate Munro, Mrs Hatton has made great progress.
Mrs Munro said: "Jo is such an energised, positive character and that comes through in her painting.
"I'm so chuffed for her that her masterpiece has been selected for the Auction."
Jo's husband of 32 years, Ian Hatton, has also been taken aback by her artistic endeavours.
He said: 'The wonderful people of St Luke's have found a very hidden talent and I'm really proud of the work she has produced.
"Bearing in mind before the stroke Jo was left-handed, so this piece has basically been done using her 'wrong hand''
It has taken Jo five hours over three sessions to complete her watercolour, which she has called 'Flowers from the Garden.'
The artwork measures 10 x 14 inches and is simply signed 'Jo.'
This painting is the 20th LOT in St Luke Hospice's Summer Auction.
Every pound from the auction of Jo's artwork will help to support more patients at the hospice.
The auction closes this Monday (August 22) at 9pm. To place a bid please visit HERE.
