Crewe and District League: new boys Crewe Town kick off with opening day win

By Gwyn Griffiths 27th Aug 2021

THE Crewe and District Saturday League finally got underway just over six months after the 2019-20 campaign was halted.

A lot has happened since then with Halfway Athletic and Winsford Saxons moving on to pastures new in new leagues and Tarporley being forced to withdraw.

Joining the league are Elworth Rangers and Crewe Town Jaguars Reserves, who kicked off in positive fashion with a 3-1 win against Mary Dendy.

Adam Grant netted a double and Josh Cooke was also on the scoresheet for Crewe Town, while Brandon Howman replied for the visitors.

The other game on the opening weekend was a local derby match between Sandbach Curshaws and Sandbach Town, which proved to be a one-sided affair.

Darren Bailey scored a hat-trick for Curshaws as they ran up an emphatic 8-0 scoreline with the other goals coming from Fraser Keena (2), Cameron Mitchell, Ryan Simmons and Gary Gardno.

Results

Sandbach Curshaws 8, Sandbach Town 0

Crewe Town Jaguars 3, Mary Dendy 1
