Residents of Crewe will soon be able to enjoy 13x faster broadband speeds, as fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband has been earmarked for the town.

Be Fibre is the UK's newest full-time broadband provider after securing a £100m investment of private funding to support its national roll out in 2021.

Warrington-headquartered Be Fibre has now moved a team of broadband engineers into the Crewe area, as the firm prepares to deliver fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) connectivity for up to 19,000 residential premises.

Be Fibre will offer download and upload speeds up to 13 times faster than the fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) coverage that currently spans the majority of the UK.

Such speeds equate to the ability to download a 1-hour TV programme in only 7 seconds, or 500 Spotify songs in 25 seconds, for example.

The network is being planned, built and operated by Be Fibre's sister company - Digital Infrastructure.

500 engineering jobs will be created across the UK by the end of 2022 from this entire scheme.

With the company aiming to reach 80 locations and 1,000,000 premises by 2027, this is significant news for Crewe.

Crewe is in great need of better broadband coverage across some areas of the town.

This year research published by price-comparison service Uswitch, found that Wistaston Road has the lowest average download speed in the country at 0.25mbps.

Be Fibre is not the only broadband company targeting Crewe. LilaConnect and Zzoomm have both been laying broadband cables across the town in recent months.

LilaConnect told Nub News: "We're bringing lightning-fast broadband to Crewe and Nantwich. We are currently working on areas in CW2 that include Derrington Avenue and Hammond Street."

Zzoomm posted on its website: "We have completed our first full-fibre town - and now we're building in Crewe. "We're local in Crewe and always ready to help.

"You can spot us working along Main Road, Greenfield Avenue and Ashcroft Avenue."
