HOMES in Wistaston could soon be reaping the benefits of full fibre broadband after LilaConnect started laying its network.

The hi-tech firm aims to connect tens of thousands of homes and businesses in Crewe and Nantwich with "lightning-fast, stable internet connections".

LilaConnect's contractors are currently in the area with construction work taking place in the Windermere Road/Langdale Road area.

The firm says the work does involve road closures and restricted parking as pavements and roads are dug up to lay the fibre optic cables.

It is part of the firm's long-term construction of a gigabit full fibre network across Crewe with LilaConnect claiming its network will offer download speeds up to 70 times faster than the UK average.

It says its "direct" full fibre network differs from other providers who combine traditional copper and fibre optic cables between homes and businesses, which can reduce signal strength.

LilaConnect's 1 gigabit service, it is said, can download a 12gb HD movie in under two minutes compared to the average 25 minutes it might normally take.

Construction notices have been issued to homeowners and LilaConnect has pledged that its work will be carried out "as quickly and efficiently as possible".

Dirt and debris are being cleared up by a dedicated cleaning team with pavements jet-washed and tarmac reinstated.

And any windows or cars that are affected by the work will also be washed free of charge with householders being able to book this complementary service by ringing the helpline number 0800 955 6670.

Construction of the network started in Nantwich last year.

LilaConnect is not the only broadband company targeting Crewe. Zzoomm aims to reach 52,000 homes and businesses with its full fibre network after laying cables last year.
