A Crewe Alexandra star striker has penned a new deal with the club - keeping him at Mornflake Stadium until 2024

On Tuesday 16 May, Crewe Alex confirmed Chris Long had signed a new one-year contract with the club..

Long, from Huyton, Liverpool, first signed for Crewe on a two-year deal from Scottish Premiership side, Motherwell, in summer 2021.

Chris Long ended 2022/23 on a high - scoring against Barrow, Walsall and Bradford City (Crewe Alex).

The 28-year-old went on to be Crewe's 2021/22 Player of the Season - netting 10 goals in 32 games as the club were relegated from League One.

During the last campaign, Long scored three times and contributed two assists in 10 EFL League Two appearances.

Long's season was blighted with injuries, but returned to the first-team with a point to prove - scoring against Barrow, Walsall and Bradford City.

Across his career to date, Long has also played for Burnley, Brentford, Blackpool, Fleetwood, Northampton and MK Dons.

The Everton academy graduate has now committed his future at Crewe until 2024 - backed by MMA Fighter, Paddy Pimblett, on social media.

In a video, 'Paddy The Baddy' said: "Me boy Longy, who you know as Christopher Long, has signed a little extension there, so he'll be at Crewe for another season - fighting for that top goalscorer award."

"I'll be coming down to Crewe next year people. Me and the lads will be there.

"Get your season tickets renewed because you'll be seeing me next season."

Crewe Alexandra were delighted with Long's new contract - releasing a short statement.

It read: "Everybody at Crewe Alexandra would like to wish Christopher all the very best for the next 12 months."

Crewe still wait on contract decisions from Dan Agyei, Rod McDonald, Tariq Uwakwe, Tom Booth, Charlie Finney and Lewis Billington.

Callum Ainley, Kelvin Mellor, David Amoo and Sean Lawton have already been released from the club.
