A CREWE Alex fan who breached a football banning order by not telling police he'd moved home has been slapped with further punishment.

When he appeared before South Cheshire Magistrates' Court, Bobby Mellor admitted failing to comply with a banning order issued on July 28, 2020 for invading the pitch in a League Two fixture at Gresty Road.

Football banning orders carry strict conditions, including surrendering passports when international fixtures are being played and notifying the authorities about changes of home address.

Mellor fell foul of the requirements when he moved from a Crewe address to Nantwich to live with his girlfriend.

Prosecutor Deborah Byrne told the court: "The defendant confirmed he'd moved to a new address in April 2021. He is currently the subject of a three-year banning order issued in July 2020.

"One of the requirements of the order is to notify of address changes. He had registered that was a condition of the order.

"There is good reason for it as the police may need to contact him.

"The order was imposed because he invaded a pitch at a regulated football match."

When he appeared in court in July 2020, as well as being banned Mellor was fined £80 after magistrates heard how he vaulted advertising hoardings and ran onto the pitch to celebrate a Crewe Alex equaliser and gestured at Oldham Athletic fans.

At that hearing Mellor admitted a charge of going onto a playing area at a designated football match without lawful authority.

He said he'd been overwhelmed by the news of becoming a father and was "feeling happy".

This time, Mellor, 24, of Cronkinson Oak, Nantwich pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the order between August 28, 2021 and October 5, 2021 under the address notification requirement.

He explained to the court that he'd been having problems finding settled housing.

"I'd just had a little girl and I was getting a bit of grief from the neighbours. I went to the YMCA and after that I was stuck.

"I have been here there and everywhere," he said.

The football fan received another £80 fine and he also has to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and court costs of £85.

  • A police officer attending a road traffic accident was struck a blow by a Crewe motorist who was more than two times over the drink-drive limit, a court heard.

Father and son, Mark and Taurean Messam became embroiled in an argument with Sergeant Ryan Ogden after they were involved in a crash on Congleton Road in Sandbach on February 19 this year.

South Cheshire Magistrates' Court was told that Taurean Messam was driving a Mercedes Sprinter van when it was in collision with an Audi A6.

Prosecutor Michael O'Kane said that when police attended the location both men had resisted arrest.

"The son was sprayed with captor spray, [incapacitant spray] while his father told the officer 'You're not arresting me for nothing mate'. He was also sprayed," said Mr O'Kane.

"Taurean Messam struck out with his left arm and hit the officer in the face."

The court was told that Sgt. Ogden hadn't suffered any facial injuries.

But Taurean Messam provided a positive roadside breath test and a reading in the police custody suite later showed up at 80mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath; the legal limit being 35.

Taurean Messam, 35, of Capesthorne Road, Crewe pleaded guilty to assault by beating of an emergency worker, drink driving and being the driver of a vehicle failing to stop after a road traffic accident.

Mark Messam, 56, of Sorbus Drive, Crewe pleaded guilty to resisting a police officer in the execution of his duty.

Ms Kamm, representing Taurean Messam, said that he was "extremely" remorseful and that his father's behaviour had been "out of concern for his son".

Magistrates handed Taurean Messam a seven-week curfew order between 7pm and 7am and banned him from driving for 20 months, while offering the drink/drive rehab course.

He was also told to pay £230 compensation to the police officer.

Mark Messam was handed a conditional discharge for 12 months and told to pay a surcharge of £22 and costs of £85.
