McDONALD'S say they reopened one of their Crewe restaurants today (Sunday) after it was forced to close because of a blaze in an electricity box.

Two fire crews were sent to the fast food giant's Dunwoody Way restaurant yesterday (Saturday) afternoon to tackle the fire which saw thick smoke and flames billowing out of the box outside the eatery (see picture).

Customers were evacuated and the premises shut at 2pm, while Dunwoody Way was closed off to traffic and pedestrians as firefighters doused the flames.

A spokesperson for McDonalds described the incident as a small electrical fire.

"All of our people and customers were evacuated safely and emergency services attended to extinguish the fire. The issue was resolved and the restaurant reopened to the public this morning," said the spokesperson.

Firefighters used dry powder to tackle the flames and isolated a gas supply.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "Crews waited for the electricity company to get to the scene to isolate the electric.

"Once that had been done firefighters were able to dampen the area down."

The fire crews were at the scene for over two hours.
