Crewe Alexandra have completed a double loan swoop on the eve of their first 2026/27 EFL League Two home game, with a Premier League and SPL player joining the club.

On August 21, The Railwaymen signed Josh Stephenson on a five-month loan from Brentford, before adding Kyle Ure from Celtic on a season-long loan.

Ure, a defensive midfielder, who has progressed through the Scottish giant's academy, captained Celtic Under-18s to Scottish Youth Cup victory before making the step up the B team.

In 2025/26, the left-footed Scotland Under-21 international spent time on loan with Ayr United in the Scottish Championship, making 19 appearances.

Compared to Celtic captain Callum McGregor, Ure was also a part of The Hoops' first team training camp in Portugal recently.

He will now join Lee Bell's squad for Northampton Town on Saturday (3pm).

Stephenson, a six-foot-one central defender, has joined for an initial period until January, following weeks of discussions.

The 20-year-old who can also operate at left back, spent time as a youth at Millwall, where he was captain of the Under-18s, before switching to The Bees in November 2024.

Stephenson was promoted to the Bees' first-team squad this summer with the offer of a new contract until 2028 and will now develop his senior experience at the Mornflake Stadium.

In 2025/26, Stephenson was crowned Brentford's U21 Player of the Year after playing a pivotal role in a successful campaign.

The defender was also named in three Brentford Premier League matchday squads and two FA Cup first-team squads last term, but is yet to make an appearance.

Stephenson is also ready to feature for The Alex against Northampton, aiming to make it three wins from three to start the season.

Crewe Alexandra said: "Everybody at Crewe Alexandra would like to welcome Josh and Kyle and wish him luck during their time at Mornflake Stadium."
