Crewe Alex: Artell suspects MK Dons' dismal away form is no guide for Gresty Road clash

By Gwyn Griffiths 27th Aug 2021

DAVE Artell says he won't be taking much notice of MK Dons' poor away record as he looks to get Crewe off the mark in League One.

Gresty Road's visitors tomorrow last won on their travels in September last year, but with matches behind-closed-doors Artell suspects it won't be a significant factor.

Crewe have yet to register in their two opening League One games, but the Crewe boss has been happy with his side's creativity in front of goal.

"I don't really pay attention to that (MK's away form) on the day and it's certainly different now, there's no getting away from that. We have to treat each game on its merits," said Artell.

"We were in a similar position 18 months ago when our away form wasn't good. In the end we turned it around, so we can't use that as some sort of guide."

The Alex boss added: "Everyone who saw last Saturday's game at Hull (0-1) would have thought we were not a team lacking goals. I am not particularly worried because of the amount of chances we've made.

"The games in this league are better football games for sure; they're a spectacle compared to when we were going to places in League Two and they were just "shelling it". The big thing is that they have been proper football games."

Artell will have more options in the centre of defence if summer signing Donervon Daniels continues his progress. The former Blackpool and Luton defender returned to training yesterday.

Attacker Daniel Powell is also close to a return after recovering from a bruised knee, while midfielder Tommy Lowery came through 45 minutes of Wednesday's high-scoring under-23 fixture at Birmingham City which Crewe won 5-4.

"He's joined in training yesterday and he was fine. We'll keep pushing him, but he is still a way off," stressed Artell.
