THE total number of people who have died in the Crewe area after contracting coronavirus rose by 24 in June, according to latest figures.

Data released today by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show deaths at a local level for people who have contracted Covid-19 and demonstrate the downward national trend with numbers falling after 37 coronavirus deaths were registered in May.

But they also show that Haslington and Weston has emerged as the worst-affected area around Crewe seeing the highest increase with eight deaths last month, double May's figure (4), to take its total to 23 since the pandemic broke out.

The Crewe area as a whole has seen the coronavirus death toll rise to a total of 116.

Deaths are reported by postcode area and Crewe's second worst-affected region is Crewe North East with a total of 20, although that dropped from 10 deaths in May to one last month.

The figures show that 17 people died in total in the third worst-affected area, Crewe Town and Victoria, while total deaths registered elsewhere in Crewe are Coppenhall and Underwood (15), Gresty Road (9), Crewe North West (8), Willaston and Shavington (6), Sydney and Gateway (5), Wistaston Green (4), Leighton (3), Mill Street and College (3) and Crewe West and Wistaston (3).

The data, which can be found here takes in deaths occurring between March 1 and June 30 this year which were registered by July 11.
