Residents have been told to take down 'tatty' World Cup flags.

Cheshire East Council has taken to social media to ask anyone who put up a display for the FIFA World Cup to remove it.

With the football tournament now well in the rearview mirror, many of the flags have started to look rather bedraggled, with those attached to railings and lampposts potentially posing a safety hazard.

A Facebook post shared by the council reads: "We've seen some fantastic displays across Cheshire East over the summer as people showed their support for the World Cup, and it's great to see residents getting behind the event and showing their community spirit.

"Sadly, football didn't come home, the World Cup is now a distant memory, and some of the flags and banners that have been put up on our streets are now starting to look a little tatty and can even be a safety hazard, especially those on railings and lamp posts.

"If you've put up a display, please take it down to help keep our streets looking their best."

And get rid of those awful paintings on the side of of all the buildings whilst you're at it

That is what I said and ENGLISH MANS HOME.
ONCE WE RULED THE BRITISH EMPIRE.

What about the tatty wheelie bins left on pavements 24/7,some not emptied.
Weeds over a foot tall kerbside.
Cars parked fully on pavements.
That's Tat dear Cec. But then you know and ignore.

Fly them by all means on your own property. Not on lamp posts.

I'm not a flag waver, but, if you're citing safety concerns, how about taking down the digital billboards that blind and distract drivers and pedestrians on busy roads and crossing points? Then again cec gets revenue from them so are therefore perfectly safe.

Nothing makes me inflate with national pride more than a decaying Chinese made flag drooping from a lightpost.

Nothing to do with the likes of the rail house eyesore, the abandoned town centre, vape shops and HMOs….. it’s the flags that are making everywhere look so tatty! Well done CEC!

Every other country on the planet still have flags flying , nothing to do with the World Cup , more like making certain people unhappy .
