Earlier today (7 October), a locomotive dating back over 90 years, passed through Crewe station.

The 6024 King Edward I departed from Crewe at 11:10 am before running through Stafford at around lunchtime.

It will complete its journey just after 4pm in Peterborough.

King Edward I was built at GWR's Swindon works in 1930 and ran for over thirty years, working over 1,570,015 miles.

Following refurbishment, the locomotive was given a new lease of life and resumed mainline duty in 1990.

After further restoration, it returned to steam and mainline operation earlier this year.

In 2008, King Edward I hauled the Royal train, transporting the then Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall from Kidderminster Town to Bridgnorth on the Severn Valley Railway.

The future king even had the chance to drive the locomotive between Bewdley and Arley.
