HS2 planners have issued assurances that access to Leighton Hospital for ambulances will not be affected by future construction work.

Responding to a recent consultation, Cheshire East Council says it harboured concerns over the closure of Parkers Road.

Now Crewe and Nantwich MP Kieran Mullan says he is monitoring the issue after holding discussions with HS2 planners.

The MP says the concerns over accessing services at Leighton "in particular the closure of Parkers Road which could affect ambulance journeys to A&E" should be listened to.

During the meeting HS2 planners said they would respond to the consultation by outlining the steps they planned to take and added the issue "would be kept under constant review".

Mr Mullan said: "HS2 is going to bring jobs and investment into Crewe and I am supporting it. But that doesn't mean I won't tackle any concerns about it head on.

"I held a meeting with HS2 planners to make clear how important this issue was. I had already made them aware that by the time they are using those roads there will be new roads and new housing estates there.

"So we need to take a flexible approach to plans. I am satisfied they are listening but I will keep monitoring the situation."
