'Completely new' bar and restaurant to launch at former village pub
By Ryan Parker 30th Mar 2026
A new small plates bar and restaurant is set to open at the former Elephant pub in Shavington, named after the local area's salt mining history.
SOLT, Newcastle Road, will be launching this spring, operated by friends Luke Dunlea and Luke Burns, under the ownership of Star Pubs.
Closed since January 4 this year, SOLT will open at The Elephant following a major reconfiguration of the site.
In January, plans were approved to install a new garden room and pergola to the current patio area in the beer garden.
This forms part of the two Luke's vision to make SOLT a venue with relaxed weekday vibes and livelier weekends, serving "carefully crafted" drinks and "plates made for sharing."

SOLT said: "If you've been wondering what's happening with the Elephant on Newcastle Road, the wait is nearly over.
"Over the next few months we'll be turning it into something completely new.
"A bar and restaurant built around small plates, smooth pours and familiar faces.
"Welcome to SOLT, opening spring 2026.
"There is plenty going on behind the scenes at SOLT and we can't wait to share more with you all very soon.
"Until then, make sure to tell a friend about us, and sign up to our SOLT list for news, offers and launch invites."
