A CREWE-based college has carried out 10,000 asymptomatic coronavirus tests on students and staff.

Cheshire College conducted the lateral flow device tests over a two-week period after students returned to their studies on March 8.

The quick turnaround tests have meant the college's campuses at Danebank Avenue in Crewe, as well as at Chester and Ellesmere Port, have been able to carry out face-to-face teaching as safely as possible.

In all, during a 10-day period from Monday, March 8 to Friday, March 19 when all students attended college at least once, 10,000 tests were undertaken with the support of over 100 volunteers at 74 testing stations.

The college says it has "seamlessly transitioned from remote learning to a blended delivery model" by maintaining high levels of safety by continuing with a number of protective measures such as one-way systems and thermal imaging cameras, and the latest the asymptomatic testing,

Dhesi, Principal and CEO of Cheshire College, said: "I am extremely proud of both our learners and staff who have all played their part in contributing to what has been a smooth transition back to Campus.

"The care, compassion and understanding shown by everyone has allowed us to maintain high levels of safety across our Campuses and it's been absolutely delightful welcoming learners back to College.

"We have achieved some fantastic things as a college. Learners and staff have shown tremendous resilience and adaptability and it's been brilliant to celebrate another term of fantastic academic achievements."
